紐約市立大學（City University of New York）布魯克林學院（Brooklyn College）與研究生中心（Graduate Center）社會學教授，出版了數本涵蓋文化與經濟、購物與消費空間、都市發展與藝術、房地產與種族聚居區等議題的書籍。曾獲都市社會學林德學術成就獎（Lynd Award for Career Achievement in urban sociology），《權力地景》一書曾獲美國社會學會頒發之C. Wright Mills獎。
