This Companion volume provides a comprehensive overview of the major themes and topics pertinent to ancient Greek law. Many of the 22 essays, written by an international team of experts, deal with procedural and substantive law in classical Athens, but significant attention is also paid to legal practice in the archaic and Hellenistic eras, areas that offer substantial evidence for legal practice, such as Crete and Egypt; the intersection of law with religion, philosophy, political theory, rhetoric, and drama; as will as the unity of Greek law and the role of writing in law.

编者科恩（David Cohen），现为加州大学伯克利分校研究生院教授，夏威夷大学威廉•理查森法学院法学教授，是伯克利战争罪行研究中心的创始董事。主要著作有：《古代雅典的盗窃法》（The Athenian Law of Theft）、《法律、社会和性：古代雅典的道德执行力》（Law, Society and Sexuality: The Enforcement of Morals at Classical Athens）、《古代雅典的法律、暴力和社区》（Law, Violence, and Community in Classical Athens）等。
